These workshops are aimed at those who have an extensive knowledge of the West African dance styles.

Particular focus points for the advanced workshops:

  • communication between the dancers and the musicians
  • echauffements and their presentation in the dance
  • longer dance figures to complicated rhythms
  • spine, breastbone and head movements
  • reacting to signals from the djembe and bass drums
  • arrangements
  • sequences for the solo dance
  • choreographies

Contents:
Generally the following items are passed on in every workshop:

  • a feeling for the music and the rhythm being played
  • differences between traditional and modern
  • rhythmic patterns as an orientation help for the dancers
  • flexibility of the body and typical postures
  • isolation of the individual body parts
  • enjoyment of dancing
